Let’s face it, decision-making in teams can be… a mess.
Endless debates. Circular arguments. And by the time you finally agree, the moment’s already passed.
Most teams don’t struggle because they can’t make decisions, but because the process is slow, unclear, or overly focused on finding the “perfect” solution. This Agile Kitchen session introduces a different approach: Consent Decision-Making.
It’s not about reaching consensus. It’s about moving forward when there are no strong objections. The result? Faster, safer, and more supported decisions that teams can actually stand behind. It’s a simple but powerful technique that helps teams move faster without steamrolling anyone in the process.
No search for the perfect idea. No endless back-and-forth. Just one question: “Does anyone have a reason we can’t move forward?”
The result? Progress. Clarity. And real buy-in.
Why consent decision-making?
Because we all make decisions. Every day. And most of us suspect we could be doing it better.
In this session, we’ll explore:
- How to reach decisions faster without losing trust
- Why “good enough for now” is often the best way forward
- How to surface concerns early, before they become resistance
- What a safe, action-oriented decision process actually looks like
You’ll get to try it out in practice, not just talk about it.
Who’s leading the session?
We’re excited to announce that Jef Cumps will lead this Agile Kitchen session.
Jef, author of ‘Consent Decision-Making’ & ‘Sociocracy 3.0 – The Novel‘, co-founded iLean in the beginning together with Kris Philippaerts. He is a widely respected voice in the Agile community.
Though Jef has been following his own professional path for the past three years, he remains closely connected to our mission and community. Having him back in the Kitchen feels like a homecoming, and we know many of you will be just as excited to learn from him as we are to welcome him.

With decades of experience, Jef brings more than just theory – he brings a grounded, human approach to change. His focus on self-organization, trust-based leadership, and practical decision-making has influenced organizations across industries.
Expect a session that’s thought-provoking, no-nonsense, and full of insights you’ll want to put into action the very next day.
What is Agile Kitchen?
Agile Kitchen is iLean’s free, quarterly community event for people who care about Agile in practice – not just in theory.
Each edition dives into a real-world topic that Agile teams wrestle with every day: from team dynamics and product decisions to leadership challenges and organisational change. You won’t find lectures or sales pitches here – just thoughtful, hands-on sessions where practitioners share what works (and what doesn’t) in their context.
What makes it different?
- It’s free, interactive, and community-driven
- We keep it practical, open, and refreshingly no-nonsense
- You’ll connect with curious minds who think critically and share generously
- And yes, there’s always food. And real conversation.
Agile Kitchen is our quarterly gathering, where you can reflect, recharge, and enjoy meaningful conversations. Bring your curiosity, and leave feeling inspired and eager to try something new.
Who is this Agile Kitchen session for?
- Scrum Masters who want better team dynamics
- Product Owners stuck in decision gridlock
- Team leads, coaches, and changemakers who want more clarity and commitment
- Anyone tired of decisions that go nowhere
