Developing a successful product in a complex world is tough. How do you make the right decisions when the future is unpredictable?
Many teams reach for data-driven tools or AI, but those only spot patterns in the past. Others rely on “learning by doing,” but unless you’re a tiny startup, experimenting at a massive scale is often too slow and too risky. Design Thinking says “empathize,” and Scrum says “ask the stakeholders,” but how can people know what they’ll want in a future reality they haven’t experienced yet?
In this Agile Kitchen session, we’ll introduce a new practical framework designed to improve decision-making under high uncertainty. Our hosts Stijn Decneut & Geert De Cang have adapted proven research to fit the complex world of larger organizations, where stakes are high, politics are messy, and “failing fast” isn’t always a great career move. Join us to learn how to replace doubt and endless debate with sound, rational decision-making.
Why join this session
If you are struggling to prioritize a product backlog or manage organizational change without relying on guesswork or unreliable feedback, this session will show you how to make confident, well-supported decisions even in uncertainty. By the end, you will know how to identify unknowns, use practical decision frameworks, avoid common pitfalls of data-only approaches, and use a clear structure for group decisions.
- You will be able to confidently identify and address unknowns in your product strategy by applying practical decision-making techniques. You will leave with step-by-step guidance to use these techniques on your own.
- You will understand how to move beyond the limitations of data-driven tools that only look backward, with practical alternatives provided during the session.
- You will be able to apply a rational framework to navigate uncertainty in both product development and organizational change, and will practice adapting it to your organization.
- You will learn how to replace opinions and loud voices with a structured, repeatable approach to decision-making that improves clarity and alignment.
What to expect from this session
True to the Agile Kitchen spirit, this session is fully hands-on. While the approach is rooted in rigorous scientific research (just like the foundations of Scrum and Lean Startup) the focus is entirely on practical application:
- The Framework: A quick intro to the framework, illustrated by a real-world case.
- The Lab: We’ll split into small groups to apply the framework to a fun, interactive exercise.
- The Exchange: Share insights and participate in a focused Q&A for your context.
- The Community: Reflect with the community, then enjoy networking over drinks.
Who’s hosting this session
We are thrilled to welcome two experts who combine deep theoretical knowledge with decades of “boots on the ground” experience.
Stijn Decneut is a former iLeaner and the creator of The VALUE Method. With over 25 years of industry experience as an executive consultant and trainer. Since 2022, Stijn is pursuing a PhD on decision-making under uncertainty. He is known for a pragmatic, no-nonsense attitude. Stijn excels at distilling rigorous research into practical, “no-fairies” tools that teams can use the very next day to navigate the unknown.

Joining him is Geert De Cang, also ex-iLean, and an expert in agile leadership and organizational design. Geert doesn’t believe in merely following standard processes or handbooks. Instead, he focuses on tuning agile principles into a design that actually works for your specific context. With over 20 years of experience leading R&D teams through disruptive challenges, Geert builds on a lifelong curiosity for systems thinking and human behavior. He understands the art of combining business results with the internal dynamics of a team.

Together, Stijn and Geert will guide you through the intersection of rational decision-making and systemic leadership. Expect 100% courage, commitment, and curiosity.
